Google‘s “Call for Me” is an autonomous agentic feature for the Pixel 11 series that allows Gemini to handle phone calls on behalf of the user. The service transitions Google’s “Call Assist” suite from a passive screening tool into an active assistant capable of navigating verbal interactions with human business staff.
The feature enables Gemini to perform common verbal errands, such as booking hair appointments, checking local store inventory, or rescheduling restaurant reservations. Unlike previous iterations of automated calling, the AI identifies itself immediately as a Google AI assistant but uses the owner’s personal phone number to conduct the call, ensuring the business recognizes the caller’s identity.
To access this early preview, users must meet specific tiered requirements. This includes being at least 18 years old, residing in the United States, and maintaining a paid Gemini subscription. Additionally, users must be enrolled in the Phone by Google Public Beta program.
Google has established strict boundaries for the autonomous agent’s capabilities. “Call for Me” is prohibited from contacting emergency services, including 911, and cannot be used to complete financial payments or share highly sensitive data such as Social Security numbers or credit card details.
The functionality represents a significant evolution of the technology first previewed with Google Duplex in 2018. While Duplex was largely restricted to specific booking systems, “Call for Me” leverages the more flexible reasoning of the Gemini model. This shift to an agentic model is supported by the hardware capabilities of the Tensor G6 chip, which debuted with the Pixel 11 series in August 2026, providing the local processing power required for low-latency natural language interaction.
The rollout is currently limited to the Pixel 11, 11 Pro, 11 Pro XL, and 11 Pro Fold. Google has not yet confirmed a timeline for a wider release or expansion to older Pixel hardware.
