Gearbox Software released the version 1.21 update for Risk of Rain 2 on October 8, 2026, coinciding with the launch of the Hallowed Concepts expansion. The update introduces the return of the Enforcer survivor and a new Karma system that increases the difficulty of the final confrontation on the moon.
While the version 1.21 patch is available across PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, the Hallowed Concepts DLC is exclusive to PC and current-gen consoles (PS5 and Xbox Series X|S).
Hallowed Concepts Survivors and Karma
The Hallowed Concepts expansion adds two new playable Survivors to the roster:
- Enforcer: Unlocked by default for owners of the DLC.
- Acolyte: Unlocked through specific gameplay objectives.
Players can also engage with the new Karma system. This optional mechanic is designed to scale the difficulty of the final boss fight on the moon, providing a steeper challenge for experienced players during the endgame.
Free Version 1.21 Skill Additions
The base game update adds six new alternate skills for the original cast of Survivors, available to all players regardless of DLC ownership:
- Commando: Sabotage
- Huntress: Laser Cyclone
- Acrid: Cloying Breath
- Artificer: Tectonic Blast
- Engineer: Laser Cutter
- REX: Proliferation
Balance Changes and Enemy Adjustments
The official 1.21 patch notes detail significant shifts in enemy durability and interactable costs. Solus-type enemies, specifically Solus Scorchers, Extractors, and Mines, have had their armor reduced by 50%.
The Halcyon Shrine has also been adjusted to change early-game pacing:
- Stage 1 spawn chance is reduced to approximately 50%.
- The credit cost has been increased to 40.
- Gold siphon speed has been increased from 5 to 7 ticks per second.
Bug Fixes
Several technical issues and scaling bugs were addressed in this version, as noted in the SteamDB logs:
- False Son: Fixed a bug where the “Laser of the Father” ability did not scale correctly with the survivor’s attack speed.
- Longstanding Solitude: This item now converts into a Pearl once the player reaches the level cap. This change was implemented to prevent a known softlock that occurred in the Gilded Coast.
