Infinity Ward has officially confirmed that the “retooled” DMZ extraction mode for Modern Warfare 4 will enter early access on Tuesday, October 20, 2026. This window provides a three-day head start for players to explore the new environment and meta-progression systems before the game’s worldwide release on October 23.
The early access period is specifically tied to digital pre-orders. Players who purchase the Standard or Vault Editions through digital storefronts on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, or the Nintendo Switch 2 will gain entry to the mode on the 20th. This marks the first time the franchise has appeared on a Nintendo platform since 2013.
Modern Warfare 4 Release Timeline
The rollout for Modern Warfare 4 is divided into three distinct phases, prioritizing different game modes to manage server loads and allow players to focus on narrative and extraction gameplay.
- October 16, 2026: Campaign Early Access begins for digital pre-order customers.
- October 20, 2026: DMZ Early Access begins for digital pre-order customers.
- October 23, 2026: Full Worldwide Launch, including standard Multiplayer modes.

The Hajin Exclusion Zone and FOB Systems
The new iteration of DMZ is set in the Hajin Exclusion Zone, a territory located on the Korean Peninsula. Unlike previous versions, this “definitive” take on the extraction format centers around a Forward Operating Base (FOB). The FOB acts as a persistent command center where players manage their inventory and upgrade their capabilities between deployments.
Within the FOB, players can access several dedicated stations to improve their efficiency in the field. These include a 3D Printer used for crafting specific gear and a Gunsmith station for fine-tuning weapon attachments. Additionally, a new Bounty Leaderboard has been integrated into the hub, allowing players to track high-value targets and overall progression within the exclusion zone.
While physical pre-orders do not currently qualify for the early access windows, digital players on all supported platforms will have their progress in the FOB and DMZ missions available as they transition into the full launch on October 23. Official support documentation clarifies that while some rumors suggested platform-specific limitations for the Nintendo Switch 2 version, it remains eligible for the same early access benefits as other consoles, provided the purchase is made through the digital eShop.
