Blumhouse Productions is officially bringing the viral “analog horror” world of Amanda the Adventurer to the big screen. The live-action film adaptation was announced during the Blumfest panel at New York Comic Con 2026, marking a significant move into indie game adaptations for the horror powerhouse.
The project is the first to emerge from a multi-film partnership between Blumhouse and YouTube creator Matthew “MatPat” Patrick. Under the deal, Patrick will produce and spearhead the development of various films based on indie horror titles and “internet oddities,” bridging the gap between digital content creators and traditional cinema.

The game franchise, which concluded its main narrative trilogy on November 6, 2025, is frequently described as a dark parody of edutainment shows like Dora the Explorer blended with the “cursed tape” tropes of The Ring. The story centers on a character named Riley Park, who discovers a box of old VHS tapes in an attic. The tapes contain episodes of a 1990s children’s show featuring a young girl named Amanda and her sheep sidekick, Wooly, but the animated characters soon begin communicating directly with Riley, revealing a sinister underlying mystery.
A Strategy Built on Mascot Horror
By tapping into the “mascot horror” subgenre, Blumhouse is following a proven path to success. The studio previously saw record-breaking results with the Five Nights at Freddy’s franchise, which demonstrated the massive box-office potential of games with deep, hidden lore and a dedicated online following.
The partnership with MatPat is designed to leverage his expertise in narrative analysis. Patrick, known for his “Game Theory” series, has spent years deconstructing the hidden stories of indie horror titles. He has described the tone of the upcoming Amanda the Adventurer film as “horror with heart” and noted that the project is currently “moving fast” through the development pipeline.

Production Partners and Status
Epic Pictures Group is confirmed as a production partner alongside Blumhouse and Patrick’s team. While the project is moving forward quickly, no writers or directors have been officially attached to the adaptation yet.
The film will be a live-action production, though it remains to be seen how the filmmakers will recreate the distinctive, low-budget 3D animation style that defined the game’s “show-within-a-show.” The original developer, MANGLEDmaw Games, saw the franchise explode in popularity due to its interactive puzzles and the disturbing evolution of the Amanda character as players progressed through the tapes.
