Bruce Helford Named ‘Newlyweds’ Showrunner Days Before NBC Premiere

NBC is preparing for its upcoming sitcom Newlyweds to make its broadcast debut. The series is scheduled to premiere on October 23, 2026, following a leadership change that comes just weeks before the show’s launch.

Original showrunner Gail Lerner was fired on October 9. According to reported claims, Lerner’s exit was the result of “creative differences” cited by the network.

The sitcom features real-life married couple Téa Leoni and Tim Daly in the leading roles. Jamie Lee Curtis, who co-created the series, serves as an executive producer and will appear in a recurring guest-starring capacity. The production had already completed six episodes under Lerner’s direction prior to her firing.

Stabilizing the Production

The network is moving forward with its original rollout plan despite the late-stage change in leadership. Newlyweds is set to premiere on NBC on October 23, 2026, at 8:30 PM.

The episodes produced under Lerner are expected to remain part of the initial broadcast order. The network is continuing with the series launch as scheduled.
