Minecraft update 1.061 (Bedrock version 1.26.60) arrived on October 27, 2026, officially launching the game on the Nintendo Switch 2 with support for “Vibrant Visuals” and high-resolution rendering. Alongside the new hardware support, the update introduces the Ice Cave biome and a new hostile mob variant called the Frostbite.
The Ice Cave Biome and Hazards
The Ice Cave is a new biome that generates specifically beneath cold Overworld regions. These caverns are composed primarily of Packed Ice and Calcite, offering a distinct aesthetic from standard stone-based cave systems. Exploration is driven by two new environmental features:
- Ice Crystals: These serve as the primary natural light source within Ice Caves. They are fragile and will break if the block supporting them is removed.
- Icicles: Functioning similarly to pointed dripstone, these speleothem-like blocks hang from the ceiling. They can fall and deal damage to players or mobs below if triggered by proximity or if light levels in the immediate area become high enough.
The Frostbite and Freezing Effect
Players navigating icy biomes will now encounter the Frostbite, a new zombie variant. This mob is capable of switching combat styles, utilizing melee attacks at close range and throwing Ice Balls for ranged engagements. Both types of attacks can apply the new Freezing status effect.
The Freezing effect causes an entity to shake, reduces its jump height, and deals periodic damage over time. While wearing Leather Armor provides immunity to the periodic damage, it does not prevent the status effect itself from being applied; players in leather will still experience the reduced jump height and shaking animation.
Realms and Creator Updates
For players using Minecraft Realms, version 1.26.60 introduces performance improvements for world management. This includes faster speeds for both uploading and downloading worlds, as well as a redesigned Member management screen utilizing the OreUI framework.
Technical changes for creators include the release of the @minecraft/server API version 2.11.0. This update moves several features from experimental beta to stable status, most notably the WorldClockRegistry and expanded sound control options. Detailed technical documentation is available on the Official Minecraft Site.
Technical and Platform Notes
While the update is numbered 1.061 on PlayStation 5, it corresponds to the Bedrock engine version 1.26.60. This patch is available across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, Android, PC, and PlayStation 4. On the Nintendo Switch 2 specifically, the update enables “Vibrant Visuals” to take advantage of the new hardware’s capabilities, though specific resolution targets have not been detailed in the patch notes.
