Minecraft Update 1.26.60 for Bedrock Edition and version 3.51 for PlayStation launched on October 27, 2026, marking the game’s official debut on the Nintendo Switch 2. The update expands subterranean exploration with the introduction of the Ice Cave biome and a new hostile mob variant known as the Frostbite.

The Ice Cave Biome and New Hazards

The update adds the Ice Cave to the game’s procedural generation, a cold-weather ecosystem found deep underground. These caves are constructed primarily from Packed Ice and Calcite, featuring dangerous Icicle formations hanging from ceilings. Players will find Ice Crystals scattered throughout these caverns, which serve as a natural light source. These crystals are fragile and will break if the block supporting them is removed.

Exploration in these zones is complicated by the Frostbite, a new zombie variant adapted to the cold. The Frostbite engages players using two methods:

  • Ranged Attacks: It throws Ice Ball projectiles at targets.
  • Melee Contact: Direct hits apply the Freezing status effect.

The Freezing effect causes a player’s character to shake and eventually take continuous damage. Based on the mechanical changes in this official changelog, wearing Leather Armor remains the primary method to negate these freezing effects, making it a necessary utility for navigating the new biome safely.

Nintendo Switch 2 Debut

This patch serves as the technical launch for Minecraft on the Nintendo Switch 2. Mojang Studios has confirmed that this version supports “Vibrant Visuals,” taking advantage of the new hardware’s capabilities. The update is also live across existing platforms, including PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Android, and iOS.

Realms and Technical Fixes

The 1.26.60 update addresses several long-standing technical issues, particularly regarding Realms stability and world management. Key improvements include increased speeds for both uploading and downloading worlds to the service. Specifically, the following issues from the official Minecraft Issue Tracker have been addressed:

  • REALMS-474: Improved reliability and speed for world uploads.
  • REALMS-419: Enhanced world download performance.

Command Expansion

For creators and technical players, the /time command has received significant functional expansions. New sub-commands allow for more precise control over the world clock and logic systems:

  • /time pause and /time resume: Allows players to freeze or restart the progression of the daylight cycle.
  • /time query time: Provides specific data on the current world time.
  • Marker-based functions: New set functions allow for time adjustments based on specific world markers.
