The October 27 update for Halloween: The Game (version 1.2.0, or 1.020.000 on PlayStation 5) has arrived across PC, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5. This update significantly eases the gameplay grind by lowering requirements for hundreds of Progressive Challenges while introducing a new map and characters.
New Map: Tower Farm
The update introduces the Tower Farm map to both Matchmaking and Private Matches. This environment features farmhouses, barns, and cornfields, offering a distinct rural setting for encounters. Players also have access to a new sewer escape route specifically designed for this map.
New Civilians and Weapons
Two new playable Civilians have joined the roster, each with unique roles:
- Eugene Kelly: Categorized as a “Lurker.”
- Michelle Blanton: Categorized as “Therapeutic.”
Additionally, the Scythe is now available as a starting weapon. Players can unlock it by completing specific Progressive Challenges or by owning the 1989 Michael DLC.
Map Discovery and Bloodthirst Mechanics
Update 1.2.0 fundamentally changes how players locate targets and Residents on the map. Residents no longer appear on the Civilian map at the start of a match; instead, discovery is now proximity-based, requiring players to be near a Resident to reveal them.
For Michael, map discovery is now strictly tied to his Bloodthirst tiers:
- Tier 1: Reveals one random Resident.
- Tier 2: Reveals 50% of all targets.
- Tier 3: Reveals all targets on the map.
Progressive Challenge Reductions
To address player feedback regarding the gameplay grind, the requirements for hundreds of Progressive Challenges have been slashed. Notable examples include:
- Bob’s “Batter Up”: Reduced from 30 to 15.
- Samhain Michael’s “Harvest Moon”: Reduced from 90 to 15.
Perk Rebalancing
A total of 18 perks have been adjusted in this patch to better balance the competitive environment. These changes include both buffs to utility and nerfs to high-performance abilities:
- Aura of Awareness (Buff): Maximum effectiveness increased to 65%.
- Adrenaline (Nerf): Maximum effectiveness capped at 30%.
Limited-Time Rewards and Cross-Play
Players looking for seasonal cosmetics can earn the “Ghoul Goggles” Jack cosmetic. To unlock this limited-time reward, players must smash 50 pumpkins within the game before November 3 at 10:00 AM PT.
The update also improves matchmaking flexibility by adding cross-play toggles. These new settings allow players to separate PC and Console controls in matchmaking preferences.
