Christopher Chung, known for his portrayal of the acerbic hacker Roddy Ho in the espionage hit Slow Horses, has joined the series regular cast of Apple TV+’s upcoming psychological thriller Ascension. The casting marks a significant step into the horror genre for Chung as he joins a high-profile production led by Oscar-winning creator Alfonso Cuarón.
As reported by Deadline, Chung’s addition follows a wave of casting announcements for the series. Veteran actors Amanda Plummer and T’Nia Miller have also been confirmed as series regulars, further bolstering an ensemble that includes Caitríona Balfe and Bill Nighy, whose involvement was confirmed on October 27.

Investigating the Cult of ‘Ascension’
While specific character details for Chung, Plummer, and Miller have not yet been disclosed, the series’ premise suggests a dark, atmospheric narrative. Ascension is inspired by Adam Nevill’s 2013 horror novel Last Days, which follows the investigation of a defunct cult. In the Apple TV+ adaptation, Caitríona Balfe stars as Rose, a documentary filmmaker who begins a deep dive into the group’s history, only to find herself entangled in their unsettling legacy.
The production represents a shift from the original source material’s protagonist, moving the central role to a female lead. The adaptation is being spearheaded by co-showrunners Natalie Erika James and Christian White, the creative duo behind the horror film Relic. Cuarón serves as a creator, writer, and executive producer on the project, which aligns with his ongoing production partnership with Apple.

Chung’s Transition and Production Status
The move to Ascension comes as Chung continues his long-running role in Slow Horses. The sixth season of the spy drama premiered on September 16, 2026, and the series remains a cornerstone of the platform’s prestige lineup. As of late 2026, Slow Horses is reported to have its eighth season in production, suggesting Chung is balancing his responsibilities at Slough House with this new venture into psychological horror.
With the creative team behind Relic at the helm and Cuarón overseeing development, Ascension is expected to lean into the supernatural and psychological tension that defined Nevill’s novel. Apple TV+ has not yet announced a formal release window for the series, though the rapid filling of the principal cast indicates the project is moving steadily through its production phases.
