Pearl Abyss released the Charting the Unknown DLC alongside update version 2.04.00 (PS5 version 1.000.662) for Crimson Desert on October 29, 2026. This major expansion introduces maritime exploration to the Great Ocean of Pywel and adds character-specific epilogue chapters that extend the narrative beyond the main story.
The update is available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC. The patch download on PS5 is approximately 17.7GB, while the full DLC package on PC can range up to 57GB.
Ocean Exploration and Shipbuilding
The primary addition in version 2.04 is the opening of the Great Ocean of Pywel. Players can now engage in shipbuilding and deep-sea exploration. Key features of the maritime system include:
- Ship Customization: Players can build and modify vessels for travel and combat.
- Diving Mechanics: Underwater exploration utilizes a breath gauge. Specialized equipment, such as diving suits, can be equipped to extend the time players can remain submerged.
- Maritime Activities: The ocean expansion integrates with existing trade and combat systems, allowing for new routes across the continent.
Character Epilogues and Social Systems
For players who have finished the main story, the DLC adds three character-focused epilogue storylines for Kliff, Oongka, and Damiane. These are accessible via the Journal. These chapters provide narrative closure following the conclusion of the primary questline.
The update also expands the game’s social and property systems:
- Romance and Marriage: Players can now enter romantic relationships with NPCs that can lead to marriage.
- Regional Festivals: New community events and festivals have been added to various regions in Pywel.
- Property Management: Three claimable castles have been added to the world. Additionally, players can now rent and manage businesses, including a restaurant in Vellua and a smithy at the Zargan Tankworks.
Garden of Trials and Technical Changes
A new combat mode, the Garden of Trials, is now available. This mode features consecutive boss battles and is unlocked after completing the main quest “Journey’s End.” It serves as a high-level challenge for players looking to test their combat builds against the game’s most difficult encounters.
Official notes from Pearl Abyss also confirm a fix for a bug where icons for newly discovered objects in certain regions failed to appear on the world map. This update follows previous improvements seen in Update 1.000.568 (2.03.02).
