Konami and Bloober Team have released update 1.05 for PC and 1.005.000 for PlayStation 5 for the Silent Hill 2 remake. While some reports have incorrectly linked these notes to Silent Hill Townfall, these official changes apply exclusively to the Silent Hill 2 remake. The update introduces DLSS Ray Reconstruction for PC and implements significant rebalancing for the game’s Labyrinth section.

DLSS Ray Reconstruction and Technical Enhancements

For PC players, the primary technical addition is support for DLSS Ray Reconstruction. This feature is designed to improve the quality of ray-traced effects, providing sharper reflections and lighting. This update is specific to the PC version of the game and requires compatible hardware to enable within the graphics settings.

Combat and Boss Rebalancing

The update brings targeted changes to combat encounters to smooth out the difficulty curve, particularly for those playing on lower settings. Significant adjustments include:

  • The Weight Boss: The severity of attacks from “The Weight” boss, located in the Labyrinth section, has been reduced specifically for players in Story Mode.
  • Enemy AI Scaling: Enemy hearing sensitivity is no longer static; it now scales based on the chosen difficulty level.
  • Nightmare Difficulty: To prevent players from inadvertently starting an overly punishing run, a new warning screen now appears when selecting Nightmare difficulty for a first playthrough.

UI and Accessibility Improvements

Several quality-of-life updates have been implemented to assist with navigation and puzzle-solving. The map UI has been updated so that the player’s position is visible regardless of the chosen difficulty level. Previously, certain settings could obscure the player’s exact location.

Accessibility has been improved for the valve puzzles. Bloober Team updated the status lighting for these objects to make the puzzles more readable for colorblind players. Additionally, the update addresses various collision issues and environment bugs that could lead to the protagonist becoming stuck or falling out of the map.
