Google has officially rolled out “Notify when left behind” alerts for its Find My Device network, addressing a significant feature gap between Android’s tracking ecosystem and Apple’s AirTag network. The update, which began appearing for users on November 5, 2026, enables separation alerts for third-party Bluetooth trackers, ensuring users are notified on their smartphones if they move out of range of a tagged item.

The functionality is currently active for Motorola’s Moto Tag and Chipolo trackers. To access the feature, users must be running Google Find Hub for Android version 3.1.787-06 or higher. The rollout follows a preview of the capability—then referred to as “Left-Behind Reminders”—spotted in Google’s October 2026 System Release Notes.

To prevent “notification fatigue,” Google has integrated a customizable “Excepted locations” feature. This allows users to define specific safe zones, such as an office or a gym, where separation alerts will be suppressed. By default, the app identifies “Home” as a trusted location, meaning users will not receive alerts if they leave a tagged item behind while at their primary residence.

The arrival of separation alerts comes just days before the scheduled release of the Pixel Tag, Google’s first-party tracking hardware. The Pixel Tag is set to go on sale November 11, 2026, with a retail price of $29 for a single unit. The hardware ecosystem is also seeing backend improvements; Google Play services version 26.39 recently introduced dedicated NFC support for compatible Find Hub tracker tags, which typically facilitates easier pairing and “lost and found” information retrieval.

The feature is currently confirmed for physical tracker tags from Motorola and Chipolo. The current rollout appears to be simultaneous across North American and European markets, providing a unified experience for the Android tracking network.

Users can check for the feature by opening the Find My Device app, selecting a compatible tracker, and looking for the “Notify when left behind” toggle within the device settings menu. If the option is not visible, ensure that both the Find Hub app and Google Play services are updated to the latest builds.
