Google Unveils Stitch: A Game-Changer for App Design

At the recent Google I/O 2025 developer conference, tech enthusiasts were treated to the unveiling of Stitch, an innovative AI-powered tool designed to streamline the creation of web and mobile app front ends. With a focus on generating user interface (UI) elements and code, Stitch promises to transform how developers and designers approach app creation.

What is Stitch and How Does it Work?

Stitch offers a unique way for users to create application UIs simply by entering a few words or uploading an image. In response, the tool generates HTML and CSS markup for the designs, making app development more accessible to a broader audience. Users can choose from Google’s advanced AI models, Gemini 2.5 Pro and Gemini 2.5 Flash, to power Stitch’s design and coding capabilities.

As the trend of vibe coding — where programmers utilize AI models to generate code — continues to gain traction, Stitch enters a competitive landscape. Other tech startups, like Cursor, Cognition, and Windsurf, are also capitalizing on this emerging market. While Korevec emphasized that Stitch is a powerful tool, she clarified that it isn’t intended to replace comprehensive design platforms like Figma or Adobe XD. Instead, Stitch serves as a complementary tool, helping users lay the groundwork for their projects.

Jules: Another AI Tool from Google

Alongside Stitch, Google has also expanded access to Jules, its AI agent focused on assisting developers in fixing code bugs. Currently in public beta, Jules aids in navigating complex code, creating pull requests on GitHub, and handling various programming tasks. In another demo, Korevec illustrated Jules’ capabilities by showing it upgrading a website from the deprecated Node.js version 16 to Node.js 22.

The demonstration highlighted Jules’ effectiveness, as it successfully cloned the website’s codebase and shared a detailed upgrade plan, which Korevec subsequently approved. Jules currently utilizes the Gemini 2.5 Pro model, but users will have the flexibility to switch between different AI models as needed.
