Arsenal manager praises Nikitah after brace in FA Cup

London: Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has praised Edward Nikitah, noting the player is successfully using the opportunity now available to him, after scoring twice for the side in his match in the third round of the FA Cup Arsenal defeated Second Division rivals Oxford United 3-0 on Monday night in the third round of the Federation Cup. Egypt’s Mohamed El-Nani scored the opener for the side, then Nikitah added the second and third goals. Nikitah, 23, has scored five goals in his last five matches, as he continues to make up for the absence of Brazilian striker Gabriel Jesus, who suffered a knee injury during his participation for his country in the 2022 World Cup which performed in Qatar. Nikitah had started the season in bench, but is now Arsenal’s top scorer alongside Martin Odegaard, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, who have started more regularly. Arteta said after yesterday’s game, in statements published by the British news agency “BA Media”: “It is clear that he was waiting for this moment.” He added: “She was patient when she needed it, but she had the mindset required and prepared for this moment.” He continued, “That’s why I see he looks ready, and that’s why he performs in this way. He showed extraordinary control.” Arteta added: “He finishes attacks wonderfully, the timing of his starts and the decision to wait until the last minute of the goalkeeper’s commitment for his position shows how good he is.” He continued: “With his understanding, his work rhythms, I see that he is getting better and better.” (dpa)
