Brixton Bash: Beating the January Blues with a Bob Marley-Inspired Celebration

In collaboration with Paramount Pictures UK, Bob Marley, a legendary songwriter, and dedicated social advocate, shared the captivating music of his homeland with the world. To honor this iconic reggae artist and mark the upcoming release of the highly anticipated biopic “Bob Marley: One Love” (hitting cinemas on February 14), our pals at Paramount Pictures UK are hosting an exciting three-day immersive event in Brixton, south London. Get ready to immerse yourself in the spirit of Bob Marley’s music and legacy!

On January 26-28, it will take place at Pop Brixton, a location that is known for its positive vibes, and there is no need to purchase a ticket to attend. Should you make the decision to make your way down to the One Love Yard (which you should absolutely do), the following is what you can anticipate:

Top-notch live music

No matter what hour you decide to show up, Bob’s home will be packed with people, thanks to the silky and soulful vocals of Noreen Stewart and an unparalleled lineup of DJs. The fantastic rapper Cristale, who was born and raised in Brixton, as well as a rising talent and someone to keep an eye on for the year 2024, will be performing on Friday night. As well as reggae DJs Rebel Clash, we are excited about the husband-and-wife team known as Handson Family, who have been representing the culture of Black music clubs in the city for more than twenty years. During the daylight hours of Saturday and Sunday evening, respectively, they will be dishing up bangers, and they will do it with the assistance of Remel London, a presenter and host who enjoys having fun. You can’t make it to all of the excitement in person, can you? It is expected that Reprezent Radio will provide coverage of the event on its airways.

Scintillating spoken-word performances

The poetic magnificence of Bob is on full show throughout the entirety of the new film, and what better way to pay tribute to the Bard of Trenchtown than with some verse that is particularly noteworthy? Poetic Unity, a group of local wordsmiths, will be performing throughout the weekend, and their spoken word performances will be in perfect pitch and profound level.

Interactive family poetry workshops

Are you interested in writing a few sonnets on your own? If this is the case, you should make it a priority to enroll in one of our unique sessions, which will be led by Adisa The Verbalizer, the most skilled tongue-twister. In little time at all, you will be able to set your couplets to rhyme.

Vinyl listening booths for full-time crate-diggers

It is highly recommended that you stop by one of the several small record shops in Brixton on your way to the One Love Yard; but, if you are unable to do so, there is something even more exciting in waiting for you. A variety of vinyl listening setups will be prepared and ready to go when we arrive. Bob geeks and average audiophiles both will be pleased with these products.

Some seriously tasty nosh

Brixton is well-known for its vibrant restaurant scene in the Caribbean. As well as that, the likes of Jeff The Chef, a neighborhood street food icon (try his mouthwatering curried goat), will be preparing some delectable meals for you to check out. Fried chicken gurus A Trini Thing and Jollof House Kitchen will also be getting toasty in the kitchen (if you know, you know). Jollof House Kitchen will be preparing fried chicken. Additionally, you will, of course, be looking for something to wash all of that back down with. Why don’t you get a couple of ‘Duppy Conqueror’ cocktails at the bar that is styled after Bob Marley? Or a pina colada with the name “Stir It Up,” if that is more your kind of drink.

Photo displays for the music nerd

Since the beginning, the stories of NME and Bob Marley have been entwined with one another. Between the years 1975 and 1981, he was featured on the cover of the magazine no less than six times. In honor of our long-standing friendship, there will be a special display at the event that will include some of Bob’s historic NME covers as well as exciting film photography from Bob Marley: One Love. This film stars Kingsley Ben-Adir as the King of Reggae, and Lashana Lynch plays Rita Marley, his wife, who is a singer-songwriter.
