Carly and Sonny’s Reunion Fans Didn’t See Coming

Soap fans are abuzz as one of television’s most iconic supercouples has found themselves reunited in an unexpected way. Carly Spencer, portrayed by Laura Wright, and Sonny Corinthos, played by Maurice Benard, have defined the landscape of General Hospital over the past 25 years. Their tumultuous relationship, which includes four marriages and divorces, culminated in a split last year when Carly caught Sonny in bed with Nina Reeves, portrayed by Cynthia Watros. Despite fans clamoring for a fifth reunion, GH hasn’t yet fulfilled that wish, though recent hints have left viewers hopeful.

This week, Benard took the initiative, welcoming Wright back for a captivating episode of his podcast, State of Mind with Maurice Benard, for the second time. After their previous episode garnered impressive viewership, Benard anticipated this new installment would resonate even more strongly with fans. The chemistry between the two is palpable, and it’s easy to see why this podcast episode is gaining traction.

In their last encounter, the duo explored Wright’s childhood and her divorce, but this time, Benard shifted gears, focusing on her current life and the series of Sacred Space Zooms she’s been hosting for fans. “What I want to do is show people and hold a space for people to realize they get to change their lives,” Wright shared. “What you really just need is to give yourself some grace and actually see the amazing things that you’re accomplishing and doing in your life.”

“A sacred space is being with people and empowering them, helping people move from a victim mindset to a powerful mindset,” Wright explained. Her mission is to show that individuals possess the power to create the lives they desire, a message that clearly resonates in today’s fast-paced world.

Amid laughter, they reminisced about the challenges of their first interactions. Wright humorously recounted how network executives had “strong-armed” Benard into meeting her. “Yes!” Benard laughed, confirming her story. Over the years, their professional relationship has blossomed, with Benard praising Wright’s talent and professionalism. “One thing about Laura Wright—if I were a director, she’s a director’s dream. She’ll do it this way, she’ll do it that way. She’s always professional,” he said.
