Japan continues to wow audiences with its quirky and outrageous talents, especially on the hit show America’s Got Talent. The landmark 20th anniversary season kicks off with an unforgettable performance from the Osaka Philharmonic.
Dressed in formal tuxedos, the six-member ensemble initially appears serious, but the act quickly takes a humorous turn. “We want to show our performance all over the world,†declares the group’s leader. “And today, if we don’t win, we will break up.â€Â
The interpreter adds a layer of intrigue, explaining, “It’s kind of a samurai spirit.†With that, the band members open their music cases, hinting at a diverse display of instruments. However, it’s all a clever ruse; they’re all set to play harmonicas, but with a surreal twist.
Things heat up when a stagehand rolls out a cauldron filled with steaming dry ice, revealing a baton suspended within. The band then removes their shirts, showcasing musical notes painted on their chests, before the leader uses the cold baton to touch each man’s nipple  triggering them to play their assigned note. Simon Cowell appears amused, while Terry Crews can’t help but cringe, exclaiming “ow.†Meanwhile, Mel B buzzes them.
When Howie Mandel inquires about her reasoning, Mel simply states, “Too painful.†Simon retorts, “How could you buzz that?†But Mel stands her ground, insisting, “I didn’t get it.†The audience boos her, with one woman exclaiming, “Mel, why are you such a hater?â€Â
Sofia Vergara comments on the unexpected contrast, revealing, “They tricked me because they seemed so serious.†She anticipated a profound performance, only to be met with “stupidity.†However, Howie celebrates the act, saying it hit several marks: “If you’re into learning music, we know each note.â€Â
Things escalate when Simon is invited to the stage. Initially hesitant, he agrees under the condition that Mel retracts her judge’s buzz. Guided by a cheering audience, Simon finds himself engaging with the harmonica. While he lifts his shirt rather than removing it, he freezes both nipples to play two distinct notes when Howie prompts him to engage with the band.
He laughs, “I can’t believe I’m doing this!†After giving Mel her wish, she enthusiastically takes back her buzzer. “If you include Simon, it’s a definite yes from me,†she quips. Howie and Sofia echo the sentiment, and Simon eagerly asks, “I want you to freeze my nipples again!†Thus, the Osaka Philharmonic receives four enthusiastic yeses from the judges.
