The Cooperation Council affirms the importance of America’s role in ending the Yemen crisis

On Sunday, the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Nayef Al-Hajraf, welcomed the appointment A special US envoy to Yemen.

The Council considered that the appointment of the Special Envoy for Yemen would constitute a positive addition to regional and international efforts to reach a political solution.

The Secretary-General of the Council stressed the importance of America’s role in ending the Yemeni crisis.

The Council stated that the Secretary-General looks forward to working with the envoy to strengthen the international community towards finding a comprehensive solution to the Yemeni crisis and achieving security and stability in the region.

The US special envoy to Yemen, Timothy Lenderking, began his contacts to discuss American efforts to end the war in Yemen.

The US State Department’s Bureau of Near Eastern Affairs press office said that Special Envoy Lenderking has begun communicating with Congress to discuss the US commitment to support Martin Griffiths’s efforts to find a political solution to the war in Yemen.

The tasks of the envoy

In the context, the US embassy in Yemen said that the US special envoy who has been appointed in Yemen will have three basic tasks.

According to the US State Department spokesman, she added that President Biden’s nomination of Tim Lenderking as a special envoy for the United States to Yemen came because of his experience in the region, where he previously worked as a deputy to the US ambassador in Riyadh and at its embassy in Kuwait.
