They then exchange these inflated tokens for other assets or use them as collateral for loans in lending markets.

Fortunately, the frequency of such exploits seems to have decreased in 2023. This can be attributed to improved security measures and a decrease in Total Value Locked (TVL) within the decentralized finance (DeFi) ecosystem.

Oracles: A Double-Edged Sword

The Binance research emphasizes that while oracles offer enticing alternatives, they also come with vulnerabilities that malicious actors can exploit. It suggests that the adoption of oracle-less solutions, which do not rely on oracles, depends on various factors and considerations that differ from case to case.

Oracle-Less Protocols: Not Foolproof

The research report proposes various projects in the lending, derivatives, and non-fungible tokens (NFTs) space that aim to reduce reliance on oracles. However, these oracle-less protocols have their own trade-offs, including increased complexity, reduced efficiency, and design constraints. Users and developers must carefully weigh these factors when deciding between oracle-dependent and oracle-less solutions.
