Twitter temporarily suspends the account of Taliban spokesman Zabihullah Mujahid

Today, Sunday, Twitter temporarily suspended the account of the spokesman for the Afghan Taliban, Zabihullah Mujahid, without giving reasons.

Mujahid has around 400,000 followers on Twitter, while he does not follow any accounts on his part. Mujahid has posted more than 29,000 tweets on his account to date.

The last thing the Taliban spokesman posted before his account was suspended was a tweet confirming that there was an explosion today near a mosque in Kabul, and a number of civilians were killed.

Last August, Twitter announced it would allow Taliban government representatives to tweet “unless they violate Twitter’s rules.”

Critics of major tech companies have expressed anger at Twitter’s tolerance of the Taliban. On the contrary, Facebook has promised to ban all accounts that praise, support or represent the Taliban on all of its platforms, including Instagram.
