Sri Lanka’s prime minister’s office announced that Ranil Wickremesinghe was sworn in on Friday as interim president to succeed Gotabaya Rajapaksa, who fled to Singapore after months of protests against him.

Wickremesinghe’s office, 73, said in a brief statement that he was sworn in by Chief Judge Jayantha Jayasuriya.

On the other hand, the office of the Speaker of Parliament Mahinda Yapa Abiwardana announced that the presidential nominations will be accepted on July 19, with the parliamentarians voting the next day.
