Halle Berry and Zoë Kravitz, two actresses who have both donned the cowl of Catwoman in separate DC film franchises, are set to share the screen in the upcoming romantic comedy “Otherwise Engaged.” The project marks the first time the two “Catwoman” alumnae will work together, starring in a multi-generational story centered on a complicated family dynamic.
The film features a high-profile ensemble cast, with Academy Award winner Colin Firth and Jack Whitehall joining the production as a father-and-son duo. The narrative follows the engagement of Charlie (Whitehall) and Gabby (Kravitz), whose wedding preparations take an unexpected turn when Charlie’s father (Firth) falls for Gabby’s mother (Berry).
“Otherwise Engaged” serves as the directorial debut for Suzanne Farwell, who also co-wrote the screenplay with Gabriel Mizrahi. Farwell brings significant experience to the genre, having previously served as a longtime producer for Nancy Meyers on modern romantic comedy staples including “The Holiday” and “Something’s Gotta Give.”
Production for the film is officially scheduled to begin in New York City in March 2027. The project is currently being launched for pre-sales at the 2026 Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) Market. Mister Smith Entertainment is handling international sales for the film, while CAA Media Finance is representing the domestic rights within the United States.
While Berry and Kravitz are both known for their roles as Selina Kyle—Berry in the 2004 standalone “Catwoman” and Kravitz in 2022’s “The Batman”—this new venture moves away from the superhero genre into a character-driven comedy. The film’s focus on the romantic entanglements between two sets of parents reflects the elevated, “prestige” rom-com style often associated with Farwell’s previous production work.
