Saturday Night Live will begin its 52nd season on September 26, 2026, marking a significant shift in its traditional scheduling.
Since Season 38 in 2012, every season of the program has premiered on or after September 27 or waited until October to launch. By moving the premiere to late September, NBC is breaking a decade-plus cycle of later starts. New York Knicks captain and 2026 NBA Finals MVP Jalen Brunson is set to host the season opener.
Joining Brunson is the global girl group KATSEYE, who will serve as the musical guest. Their performance marks a historic milestone for the show; KATSEYE is the first traditional girl group to perform on the Studio 8H stage since Destiny’s Child appeared in 2001.
Cast Departures and Transitions
The upcoming season arrives amid a major roster overhaul. Longtime cast member Chloe Fineman is departing the series after seven seasons. Her exit follows the departure of Bowen Yang, who officially left the series midway through Season 51 following the December 20, 2025, episode.
Behind the scenes, the show is also seeing changes to its writing and digital shorts department. Martin Herlihy, a member of the “Please Don’t Destroy” trio, is leaving his role as a writer and contributor.
October Schedule and Hosts
Following the September 26 premiere, NBC has already established a clear roadmap for the first full month of the season. The hosting lineup features a mix of returning favorites and rising stars:

- October 31: Inde Navarrette
