Google Gemini ‘Call for Me’ Feature to Expand Toward Personal Social Calls

Google’s “Call for Me” feature is reportedly preparing to expand its capabilities beyond managing business appointments. New evidence suggests the Gemini-powered service will soon allow users to delegate personal calls to friends and family, effectively acting as a voice-based intermediary for routine social updates.

According to an analysis of the Google Phone app by Android Authority, an unreleased version of the software contains a “Gemini Calling” introductory screen. This interface highlights new use cases for the AI agent, such as calling “Mom” to explain that a user is running late or contacting a friend to check if they are still attending a planned dinner. These personal interactions represent a departure from the current “Call for Me” scope, which has been restricted to business-centric tasks like scheduling appointments or checking restaurant availability.

New evidence suggests will use call logs and SMS context to manage personal social interactions.

The leak also points toward deeper integration with a user’s personal data to facilitate these calls. A “Privacy & Permissions” section discovered within Pixel Search indicates that Gemini may request access to call logs and SMS history. This access is likely intended to help the AI generate more relevant calling suggestions or understand the context of the relationship with the contact it is being asked to dial.

Hardware and Subscription Requirements

While the personal calling feature remains in development, it is expected to follow the technical framework established by the existing business version. As of the limited preview launched on September 24, 2026, for Pixel 11 users, the “Call for Me” ecosystem requires specific criteria for operation:

  • Device Compatibility: Currently limited to the Pixel 11 series.
  • Connectivity: Requires a US-based SIM card.
  • Subscription: Functionality is gated behind a paid Gemini subscription tier.

This expansion into personal communication signals an evolution from the logic-driven tasks of Google Duplex (2018) toward the “agentic” capabilities of the Gemini 4 Argon model introduced in October 2026. Unlike standard automated messages, the current Gemini calling protocol requires the AI to explicitly identify itself as a “Google AI assistant” to the recipient, a transparency measure that will likely persist as the feature moves into social circles.

The practical benefit of this update targets scenarios where a user is unable to type or speak directly, such as while driving or in a meeting. By allowing the AI to bridge the gap between a digital prompt and a landline or voice-only recipient, the system acts as a modern “voice-SMS” for inner circles. However, Google has not yet confirmed a specific release date for these personal calling features, and current guidelines officially restrict the tool to routine business inquiries.
