Team17 has released Update 1.6 for Hell Let Loose: Vietnam, identified as version 1.014 on consoles. Launched on October 7, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, the patch introduces a significant shift in squad composition and eliminates the resource cost for basic defensive structures.
Squad Meta and Engineering Changes
The most substantial change to infantry gameplay is a restructuring of unit roles. Update 1.6 increases the number of available Medic slots within a squad while reducing the number of standard Riflemen. These changes are designed to increase the sustainability of frontline units during protracted engagements.
- Medic Slots: Increased to two per squad.
- Rifleman Slots: Reduced from three to two per squad.
- Level 1 Buildables: Engineers can now place and construct Level 1 Barricades, Bunkers, and Barbed Wire for free.
By making Level 1 structures free to build, developers have removed the initial resource friction for Engineers, allowing defensive lines to be established more quickly without immediate reliance on supplies.
Audio Overhaul and Weapon Adjustments
Update 1.6 focuses heavily on the auditory experience of the Vietnam theater. Several iconic weapons have had their firing sounds remixed to remove distracting “clicking” noises often heard in the first-person perspective. Additionally, a new layer of environmental audio has been added to increase the sense of scale in the combat zone.
- Weapon Sound Remixes: The M16A1, Type56, RPD, and K50M have received updated audio profiles.
- M60 LMG: This weapon received entirely new firing sound effects along with an adjustment to its rate of fire.
- Warzone Ambience: A new audio layer adds distant combat sounds, such as faint gunfire and explosions, which are independent of actual player actions on the map.
Technical Fixes and Map Polish
For players using helicopters, the update addresses a specific control issue regarding mouse-input bindings. Players can now reliably bind mouse inputs for increasing and decreasing the collective. This update follows the technical groundwork laid in previous iterations like Update 1.5.2.
The patch includes 25 map-specific fixes across the six Vietnam maps currently in rotation. These fixes target various issues including textures, collision errors, and adjustments to spawn points to prevent players from appearing inside solid geometry. While the general performance remains similar, the map polish specifically aims to address issues discovered during the initial launch phase of the game, as detailed in our Hell Let Loose Vietnam Review.
