Psyonix released Rocket League Update 2.78 on October 21, 2026, for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch. This update focuses on quality-of-life improvements to the inventory and shop systems, alongside a new method for skipping the intro cinematic.
Shop and Trade-In Improvements
The update introduces a new visual indicator in the Trade-In menu. Favorited items now display a specific icon, helping players quickly identify their preferred gear and avoid accidentally trading it in. This change addresses a request for better inventory protection during the trade-in process.
The Item Shop has also received a preview overhaul. Bundle previews now display the complete loadout on the featured vehicle. When viewing a bundle, players will see the car, decal, wheels, boost, trail, antenna, and topper equipped together, rather than viewing components in isolation.
Cinematic Skip and Match Stability
Players can now bypass the new player intro cinematic. Holding the Esc key on PC or the Start button on a controller for two seconds will skip the video and move directly to the main menu. Beyond this convenience, the patch addresses several technical errors affecting match transitions and connectivity:
- Error 58: This error, which occurred when a player attempted to join a Private Match during a transition, has been resolved.
- Nintendo Switch: A bug that prevented players from logging in correctly after losing a network connection has been fixed.
- Xbox Stability: Psyonix resolved a specific crash that affected Xbox consoles after resuming a suspended game session.
Inventory and Cosmetic Fixes
Update 2.78 corrects a restriction in the inventory system that prevented duplicate Black Market items from being traded in if they originated from different series or purchase sources. These items can now be combined as expected in the Trade-In menu.
Visual fixes include an adjustment to the Starmageddon Goal Explosion. The explosion’s effects should no longer clip through the goal crossbars or the sides of the arena. More details on the current season and technical adjustments can be found on the official Rocket League site.
