Sony Interactive Entertainment released PlayStation 4 system software update 14.02 on November 4, 2026. This firmware update is available for the original PlayStation 4, PS4 Slim, and PS4 Pro consoles.

The primary change in version 14.02 is an improvement to the messages and usability on some screens. These refinements are designed to enhance the interface and navigation experience for users as they interact with the system’s operating software.

Manual Update via USB

While most users will receive the update automatically via an internet connection, you can also perform a manual installation using a USB drive. For the console to recognize the update file, you must adhere to a specific directory hierarchy on your storage device:

  • Create a folder named PS4 on your USB drive.
  • Inside the PS4 folder, create another folder named UPDATE.
  • Save the update file as PS4UPDATE.PUP inside the UPDATE folder.

To install the update manually, you may need to access the console’s Safe Mode. This is done by turning the console off and then holding the power button until you hear a second beep.

Standard Update vs. Reinstallation

Users downloading files from the PlayStation support site should distinguish between the standard update file and the reinstallation file. The standard update file only refreshes the system software. The reinstallation file is intended for replacing a hard drive or resolving critical system errors; using this specific file will delete all data on the console, effectively performing a factory reset.

If you are updating via the console settings menu, the system will automatically download the standard update package without affecting your saved games or installed applications.
