Alaska Airlines Flight Diverts at Portland International Airport Due to Security Threat

An Alaska Airlines flight operated by a subsidiary diverted to Portland International Airport on Sunday because of a security threat “related to an authorized occupant” in the cockpit jump seat, the carrier said.

Details on the Incident

Alaska Airlines has not yet confirmed if the individual occupying the cockpit jump seat was a pilot. Typically, pilots use jump seats to commute.

“On Oct. 22, Alaska Airlines Flight 2059, operated by Horizon Air, reported a credible security threat related to an authorized occupant in the flight deck jump seat. The crew successfully secured the aircraft without incident,” Alaska Airlines stated.

Investigations and Statements

The incident is currently under investigation by law enforcement. No comments have been made by the pilots’ union at this time.

Alaska Airlines expressed gratitude for the professional handling of the situation by the Horizon flight crew. They also appreciated the calm and patience demonstrated by the passengers throughout the event.
