Final Fantasy XVI: Clive’s Adventure Sells 3 Million Copies in One Week, But There’s a Catch

Clive already a millionaire

We know it well: a new numbered Final Fantasy is rare enough for theon pay full attention to it possible when one of them arrive on the market. On June 22, it was Final Fantasy XVI that offered itself to many very impatient players. to discover Clive’s brand new adventure… which turned out to be excellent, as we explained to you in our test.

A week later, Square-Enix therefore communicated on the social networks of son new baby: FF 16 delivered and sold, physically and digitally, three millions of copies. 3 millions in one week, so that’s the figure to remember and yes, it is, in itself, a very good commercial spinoff. But there is a catch!

An ambiguous number

The devil is in the details and yet it is marked black on white: no, Square-Enix did not sell three millions of Final Fantasy XVI, but he sold and distributed three millions. By “distribute”, the firm means that it has simply delivered physical copies (for example to the various resellers) but these are not necessarily sold. Just…distributed.

Given this, a first comparison is necessary with the predecessor opus. Final Fantasy XV had, in one week, sold (and well “sold” this time) 5 millions copies in one week, both physical and digital. A score much higher, of course, but that must nevertheless be put into perspective: FF 15 was released on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One and not only on PlayStation 5, as is the case for FF 16!

You can also put the scores Game face to those of Final Fantasy VII Remake which, in three days, had distributed and sold 3.5 millions copieswhile the park of PS4 was then considerably higher than that of PS5 today.

A priori, therefore, the launch figures for Final Fantasy XVI are very good and it still has good days ahead of it to inflate its statistics. Of course, nothing to do with the scores Stratospheric Zelda Tears of the Kingdom in three days… but Nintendo is Nintendo.
