Fixing the Save-Preventing Bug in Baldur’s Gate 3: Solutions and Updates by Larian Studios

Newly released RPG Baldur’s Gate 3 seemingly has a save-preventing bug.

As noticed by IGN, several players have noticed the issue on the game’s Steam Forums, but now developers Larian have provided some solutions to the potential issues that may emerge.

On the game’s support forums, Larian has suggested that Windows Defender could cause issues and that players should shut down all non-essential programs before opening the game.

It’s also been suggested that the game’s cloud sync has caused issues, leading players to suggest the following solution:

  1. Turn off the cloud sync to Baldur’s Gate 3
  2. Remove the folder “C:\Users\myUser\AppData\Local\Larian Studios\Baldur’s Gate 3”
  3. Start the game and do not enable the cloud sync

Larian is aware of the issue and plans to address it as soon as possible.

The game’s off to a big start on Steam, becoming the second-biggest launch of 2023 so far.

The game, which has been in early access for years, was officially released on Thursday on Steam, where it saw a peak concurrent player count of 427,000 according to independent Steam tracker SteamDB.

While impressive, it’s still a long way off 2023’s biggest Steam release to date, Hogwarts Legacy, which saw a peak concurrent player count of 879,308 during its launch period.

The game will be released on PS5 next month, but Larian has suggested that the Xbox version may not launch until 2024.

Writing on Twitter, Larian’s director of publishing Michael Douse seemed to imply that the issues relating to launching the game on Microsoft‘s platform may not be resolved until next year.

“We have quite a few engineers working very hard to do what no other RPG of this scale has achieved – seamless drop-in, drop-out co-op on Series S,” Douse wrote. “We hope to have an update by the end of the year.”
