In the final week of the 2023-24 Big 12 women’s basketball season, two outstanding players truly shone above the rest. Taiyanna Jackson, the senior center from East Chicago, Indiana, and Madison Booker, the freshman forward from Ridgeland, Mississippi, were recognized for their exceptional performances on the court and were awarded the weekly honors.
Jackson’s dominance was evident in her leadership on the court, which helped lead the Jayhawks to two impressive victories. Her remarkable performance in these games was reflected in her outstanding stats. She averaged an impressive 20.5 points and 12.5 rebounds, with her standout game coming in a 65-53 win against UCF, where she recorded a career-high 29 points, along with 10 rebounds and four blocks. Furthermore, she contributed 12 points and 15 rebounds in the game against then-No. 20 Oklahoma. This marks the fourth weekly honor for Jackson, showcasing her status as a force to be reckoned with.
Booker, on the other hand, was a rising star in the Big 12 conference, proving once again why she is considered one of the league’s top newcomers. Throughout the week, Booker showcased her versatility on the court, averaging 23.0 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 6.0 assists for the Longhorns. Her standout game was against Oklahoma, where she dominated with 26 points, eight rebounds, seven assists, and six steals. Booker’s impact was also evident in the regular-season finale against BYU, contributing 20 points and five assists in a convincing 71-46 victory. With this latest recognition, Booker has now earned the Freshman of the Week honor five times this season, cementing her place among the conference’s top newcomers.
