Italian coach Roberto Mancini, coach of the first Saudi national football team, made statements that sparked controversy within the Saudi sports street, regarding the exclusion of the trio of Al-Nasr, Al-Hilal and Al-Ahly.
During the past few days, the Italian coach was subjected to harsh criticism from the Saudi fans, because of his exclusion of: (Sultan Al-Ghannam, Al-Nasr player – Muhammad Kanno, Al-Hilal player, and Firas Al-Braikan, Al-Ahly player).
Mancini reveals the reason for the exclusion of the trio of Al-Nasr, Al-Hilal and Al-Ahly
During the press conference held before facing Pakistan, as part of the Asian qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, the Saudi national team coach said: “Now… it is time to build a new generation for the Saudi national team.”
Regarding the exclusion of Muhammad Kanno, Sultan Al-Ghannam and Firas Al-Braikan, the trio of Al-Hilal, Al-Nasr and Al-Ahly respectively, despite their brilliance, he confirmed that it was for technical reasons.
The Italian explained that he is keen to call only players who are 100% ready to the Green camp, and that the door is open for all names to join the national team.
