Mud and frost… Ukrainian soldiers stuck in trenches

Is winter in Ukraine and the “white general” will slow down the fighting, according to many experts.

The Russo-Ukrainian conflict, which has entered its 10th month, the intensity of its pitched battles has recently abated, with snow and rain falling, and freezing temperatures at dawn and at night.

Russian forces have substituted long-range air and missile strikes to target infrastructure and electrical installations.

It’s a swamp

As far as Ukraine is concerned, the soldiers are still in their trenches. From inside one of those old mud trenches, one of the soldiers said, “What can I say? We are in a good position for some reason, but now it’s more difficult due to the rain and freezing weather.”

He also added, pointing to one of the trenches that has been filled with water: “It’s a swamp…although it dried up a bit today,” Reuters reported.

However, he confirmed that the water level was previously high due to rain. She explained that the soldiers used buckets to remove the water.

The fighting slowed down

Interestingly, US officials had previously suggested that the war would temporarily halt or that military progress on both sides would slow as winter sets in.

Furthermore, the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, General Mark Milley, recently suggested a slowdown in hostilities during the winter, indicating his belief that this slowdown could provide a window to a solution.

On the other hand, the Institute for the studio of the war expected that Russian President Vladimir Putin would seek to continue conventional military operations to keep the lands he currently controls under control and perhaps to acquire new lands.

He also saw that the Kremlin could be betting on Western support for Kiev waning with winter pressure on the peoples of Ukraine’s allies amid a fuel and gas crisis and exhausting economic inflation.
