UAE and Azerbaijan Sign Cooperation Agreements

Today, the UAE and Azerbaijan signed a group of memorandums aimed at expanding the horizons of cooperation between the two countries, the most prominent of which are two memorandums of understanding on electricity projects and the export of clean energy.

The documents were signed in Baku, in the presence of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.

Memorandums of Understanding

The notes included:

  • Memorandum of Understanding on the strategic partnership between the UAE and the Republic of Azerbaijan.
  • A memorandum on cooperation between the Ministry of Finance of the UAE and its counterpart, the Ministry of Finance of Azerbaijan.
  • Memorandum on cooperation between the Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy and the Azerbaijan Diplomatic University.
  • A protocol of intent between the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment and the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan.
  • Memorandum of understanding on investment cooperation in electric power transmission projects.
  • Strategic cooperation to export clean energy.
  • A roadmap for implementing renewable energy projects.

Strategic Cooperation Agreement

A strategic cooperation agreement was also signed between Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and the State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR), aiming to enhance joint cooperation in providing safe and reliable supplies of energy in a responsible manner, supporting achieving a just, equitable, and orderly transition in the energy sector.

The President of the UAE and the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan discussed the cooperation relations between the two countries and opportunities to enhance them and expand their horizons to wider areas contributing to achieving the common interests of the two countries and their aspirations towards progress, development, and sustainable prosperity.

The two sides also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues and topics of common interest.
