Samsung has officially begun the global rollout of One UI 9, its latest operating system upgrade based on Android 17. The software, which first debuted on the Galaxy S26 series in South Korea on September 16, reached U.S. carriers including T-Mobile and Verizon by September 23, 2026. As of September 28, the update has expanded to the Galaxy S25 series and Samsung’s seventh-generation foldables.
The update focuses heavily on refining the user interface and introducing AI-driven productivity tools.
Refining the Quick Panel and Home Screen
One of the most immediate changes in One UI 9 is the overhauled Quick Panel. Samsung has introduced resizable sliders for both brightness and volume, allowing users to prioritize the controls they use most frequently. The layout is also more flexible; users can now reposition various toggles, such as Dark Mode or Eye Comfort Shield, to any slot within the panel.

For users who want deeper aesthetic control, Samsung has updated the “Home Up” module within the Good Lock application. This module now includes “Favorites Background” customization, which allows for the manual adjustment of shadow and blur effects on the home screen. While these advanced visual tweaks require the separate Good Lock download, they provide a level of depth and transparency control not found in the standard settings menu.
AI-Powered Video and Productivity Tools
One UI 9 brings “My FanCam” to a wider range of flagship devices. Previously exclusive to the Galaxy Z Fold 8, this AI-powered subject-tracking tool automatically crops and centers a subject within a recorded video. This allows for smoother, professional-looking footage without the need for manual gimbal movements or post-processing.
Samsung has also introduced “Now Brief” cards, which function as an AI-generated daily dashboard. These cards synthesize data from weather reports, health metrics, and personal schedules to provide a concise summary at the start of the day. For those needing to minimize distractions, a new “AI Network Guard” has been identified as a hidden tool within the settings. This feature allows users to limit internet access for specific apps during designated focus periods, acting as a more aggressive version of traditional Do Not Disturb modes.
Rollout Schedule and Compatibility
Following the initial launch on the current flagship models, Samsung begins official rollout for its previous generation of high-end hardware. The Galaxy S24 and S23 series, along with older Z-series foldables, are scheduled to receive the One UI 9 update between October and December 2026.
